Role of Financial Capability Workers

Financial Capability Workers (FCWs) provide information, money management skills and coaching to help clients make financial decisions and build financial resilience. This also includes providing community education workshops.

Financial Capability Workers cannot provide advice and are not Financial Counsellors. Refer to the Financial Capability Handbook and Role Clarity for Financial Capability Workers for further information.

All workers who deliver financial capability services are required to have an equivalent or higher qualification of a Certificate III in Community Services Work and complete the Financial Literacy Skill Set units:

CHCEDU005: Work with clients to identify financial literacy education needs
CHCEDU006: Improve clients’ fundamental financial literacy skills
CHCEDU007: Provide group education on consumer credit and debt.

There are a number of training organisations that deliver this Skill Set. In NSW Eva Burrows College and ICAN Learn deliver this Skill Set. Refer to their websites for further details.

Financial Capability Workers provide money management skills, coaching and financial literacy education. Financial Capability Workers are employed by community organisations and can work alongside Financial Counsellors. Their services are free.
