First Nations Yarning Circle

FCAN’s First Nations Yarning Circle was formed in 2015 to support and assist Financial Counsellors and Financial Capability Workers in NSW who identify as First Nations and/or First Nations heritage.

The Yarning Circle is a safe place for our First Nations members to share ideas and work together on issues.

The Yarning Circle meets each month to undertake professional development and support each other. The Yarning Circle has also presented culturally inclusive professional development for other FCAN Financial Counsellors.

In June 2022 the Yarning Circle held the “Great Escape” cultural day at Birpai Land Council. It was the first chance the Yarning Circle had caught up face to face since COVID. It was also a first for the land council who had not welcomed guests since February 2020. The cultural day preceded two days of professional development.

In February 2023 and 2024 we continued the Yarning Circle “Ocean Escape” in Coffs Harbour and training days in Sydney where all of our First Nations members joined us for memorable training and cultural activities.

FCAN also hosts the First Nations training and cultural days (invitation only) following our annual conference.
